Lafon Rochet

The origin of the “Rochet� name lies in the word “roches�, the rocks that make up the soil of the Lafon-Rochet domain.

Over the course of thousands of years, crumbling rocks from the far-off Massif Central and Pyrenee mountains were ferried by the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, eroded into pebbles and deposited in the limestone subsoil of Saint-Estèphe, creating a landscape of gentle, well-drained hills featuring a deep layer of gravel.

The Lafon-Rochet domain sits on soil covered by a layer of gravel dating back to the period formerly known as the Quaternary (Günz) and features a mixture of quartz, gritstone, silex, volcanic lydianite, millstone grit, sand and clay. The diverse composition of its gravel layer combined with its excellent natural drainage system make the Lafon-Rochet domain a truly exceptional terroir.

With its vast estate of 40 hectares, the Château Lafon-Rochet is one of the great ambassadors of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Ideally situated between the Lafite-Rothschild and Cos d’Estournel properties, it can proudly boast of its prime location in one of the world’s most prestigious winegrowing neighborhoods.
