Henry Marionnet

The Marionnet family arrived at Soings in the Touraine - about 30 km from Blois - during the middle of the last century, enlarging and completely replanting the vineyard between 1967 and 1968. Today the Domaine de la Charmoise has 60 hectares under vines producing 400,000 bottles.

The cellar is entirely equipped with stainless steel tanks and the vinifications are all 'specials' and different classical methods, the emphasis being on creating wine which has all of the original (authentic) qualities, properties and style.

The Domaine de la Charmoise is for the most part planted with Gamay Noir for the red wines and sauvignon for the whites. The gamay noir is a jus blanc and covers a surface of 33 hecatres, planted mostly between 1967 and 1978. Average output is 55 hl/ha. Approximately 17 ha are planted with Sauvignon, planted mostly during 1967 and 1982, producing 45 to 50 hl/ha.

The soil is of type 'perruches', composed of clay, silica and gravel. By the grace of its position, more east of the Touraine, the domaine benefits from a more continental climate favourable for gamay and sauvignon. A unique microclimate helps grape maturity and good protection against frosts.
