Domaine des Maillettes

In our opinion, one of the best producers in the Maconnais. Guy Saumaize, a second-generation producer has 13 hectares of mostly Chardonnay, making wines from the ACs of Macon Davayé, St Véran and Pouilly Fuissé. Specific site selction based on the terroir (limestone and clay) and seperate vinification allow Guy to make expressive wines both from single vineyards or from blends of vineyard sites.

Produced from 40 year old Chardonnay vines with no oak wood element, this dry full bodied wine has recieved the highest accolade for quality and authenticity. Vinification in the finest French oak barrels has added great complexity to this dry white wine. The nose has whiffs of vanilla and hazelnut and in the mouth it is big, powerful with a suggestion of toasted brioche and liquorice and orange peel on the farewell. A real blockbuster awarded the maximum ***and Coup de Coeur by Hachette. Powerful enough to go with most white meas in rich sauces. Fabulous marrage with Coquille St Jacques and Beurre Orange.
